Tips to Help You Stay Healthy

COVID-19 illistration

Posted by ServiceMaster | March 31st, 2020 | Categories : Healthy Environments

Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, all of us at ServiceMaster Twin Cities are doing all we can to help our employees, customers and community to stay healthy. As experts in creating clean, safe and healthy environments, we would like to share some habits that you can implement into your daily routine to help prevent the spread of illness.

For Yourself:

Hand hygiene: Wash your hands often. Here’s the correct way:

  1. Use clean running water to wet your hands. Warm or cold doesn’t make a difference.
  2. Turn the water off and apply any type of soap. You don’t need to use antibacterial to reap the benefits of freshly washed hands.
  3. Lather your fingertips, the back of your hands and under your fingernails. Cover every corner of your hands up to your wrists with soap.
  4. Scrub your hands together for at least 20 seconds.
  5. Turn clean running water back on and rinse off the soap.
  6. Dry your hands using a clean towel or let them air dry.

If you don’t have access to soap and water, use a generous amount of alcohol-based sanitizer that contains 60 to 95% alcohol. Spread all over hands and rub them together until dry.

Stay Home: If you feel sick, stay home. Even if you feel healthy, limit your time out of your home as much as possible.

Cover Coughs and Sneezes: Catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue or the bend of your elbow instead of your hands.

6 Feet: When you have to be around others, keep 6 feet of distance to avoid spreading germs or viruses from person to person contact.

For Your Space:

Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces daily with household cleaning spray or wipes and follow instructions on the label. These are some of the germiest surfaces you may come into contact with:

  • Keyboard & Mouse: Electronics are an important part of any workday. Pay special attention to your keyboard and mouse when disinfecting.
  • Phone: Cell phones and work phones are both very germy due to how often they’re used throughout the day.
  • Coffee Mugs: Communal mugs are often some of the dirtiest items in your office. Make sure they’re run through a dishwasher instead of just rinsed out with an old sponge.
  • Work Bags: Briefcases, backpacks and purses are carried with you everywhere you go usually with little attention where they’re put down.
  • Shared spaces: Either at home or work, pay extra attention to common areas. Many hands touching the same items all day long is a recipe for germy surfaces.
