Food Processing Plant Cleaning Guidelines

Posted by ServiceMaster | April 8th, 2022 | Categories : Commercial Cleaning

Food processing plants need to maintain a clean environment to ensure proper product quality, prevent end consumers from getting sick, and create a healthy environment for employees to work in. Practice the following industrial facility cleaning tips from our commercial cleaning experts to produce healthy and safe food.

Remove Debris and Clean

The first important step in the facility cleaning process is to remove dirt and debris from around the facility. You can opt for a lint-free cloth to get rid of the soil deposits from food contact areas. Soil includes gross solids, large particles, proteins, mineral salts, lubricants, and other residues. Another option is to use methods like dry floor push mops cleaning and dry moisture steaming to remove all the dirt.

Sanitize Food Contact Surfaces

Sanitizing is one of the most important steps after cleaning. Sanitizing any area can help you prevent the growth of bacteria and viruses. It can also eliminate any pathogens, bacteria, and viruses that are present.

Food prep and cooking can make any area messy, which leads to bacteria growth if not maintained. Make sure that you disinfect any surface that comes into contact with food during the cooking process. Also, use a high-quality disinfectant at the end of each working day.

Clean Food Processing Equipment

Similar to food contact surfaces, you also need to disinfect the food processing equipment. Once you wipe down the equipment, use soapy water, sanitizer, and disinfectant to eliminate harmful pathogens that can cause cross-contamination or illness.

Keep in mind that the equipment you use needs cleaning a couple of times a day to ensure that no pathogen interacts with the food you are preparing.

Maintain Clean Storage Areas

Maintaining the space where you store equipment and tools is just as important as anything else. First, make sure that you only bring cleaned and disinfected equipment in the storage area. Then, regularly clean the shelves, cabinets, and other storage areas to reduce the risk of contamination.

When you plan to take any equipment from the storage, clean and sanitize it again before using it. This way, there’s no risk of spoiling or contaminating your food.

Sanitize Floors and Walls

Floors and walls are also included in the facility cleaning procedure, even if they don’t come in contact with the food. Note that viruses and bacteria can easily spread from one place to another.

Walls and floors need cleaning throughout the workday. Bring in a professional janitorial team to mop the floors throughout the day and remove food debris from the floor.
